Ntcheu, July 27, 2018: Dedza Diocese of the Catholic Church will launch its first ever website on July 29, 2018 as a way of promoting information sharing among its faithful.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Wednesday, Communications Secretary for the diocese, Fr. Henry Makawa, said the launch will take place on the sidelines of the commemoration of the Catholic Church’s 2018 World Communication Sunday at Ntcheu Parish in the diocese.
“All Catholic churches in Malawi will on Sunday, July 29, commemorate what we call Communication Sunday. As a diocese, we will hold the function at Ntcheu Parish. We have a number of activities that will take place on the day, one of them is the launch of the website,” said Makawa.
He said the website will help enhance communication among the Catholic faithful in the diocese.
“It will be a good platform for the church and its faithful, because it is where communication of all kinds and information sharing will be done,” he said.
The reverend said the diocese will also take advantage of the day to launch an association of Catholic journalists from the diocese.
“We have a good number of journalists that have since formed an association. We will also launch the association on this day,” said Makawa.
He added that there will be Mass at Ntcheu Parish which will be presided over by the Diocesan Administrator, Fr. John Chithonje.
In a related development, Mangochi Diocese will also commemorate the World Communication Sunday with media houses within the diocese’s reach at St. Augustine Cathedral in Mangochi.
The Bishop’s Secretary and Diocesan Pastoral Secretary, Fr. Steve Kamanga, said over 10 media houses from Mangochi, Machinga and Balaka would join the diocese in commemorating the day.
He cited MBC, Radio Maria, Zodiak, Montfort Media, Luntha TV and three community radios in the district namely: Radio Lilanguka, Umoyo and Dzimwe, and Mangochi District Information Office as the media houses to grace the occasion.
“The event will start with Mass at 9:00 a.m. and thereafter, the Bishop will be taken around the various pavilions mounted by the media houses,” explained Kamanga, adding: “There will also be presentations on Mass Media and the Church, and the media will showcase their products and services.”
World Communication Sunday is an annual commemoration which is celebrated on the Sunday before Pentecost in the Catholic Church. The theme for this year’s commemoration is ‘Fake news and Journalism for Peace.’
